PERUGIA, ITALY

Six couples - three men and three women - spontaneously protested an anti-gay marriage rally by kissing in public. They immediately drew the ire of authorities and all were charged with disturbing the peace. “Gay men and lesbian women kissing in public is not a crime,” said Judith Sunderland of Human Rights Watch, which called for the charges to be dropped. “The activists' actions are clearly protected by their right to peaceful protest.”
