Cuban LGBTQ organization Proyecto Arco Iris (Project Rainbow) sponsored Cuba's second annual kiss-in for gay pride. The kiss-in was a statement about the need for visibility. Said activist Yasmin Silvia Portales Machado, "There is a sustained effort to minimize the visibility of the LGBT community in public spaces; and...to minimize their needs." Organizers also told Pinknews: “Kissing in public should be everyone’s right but many view it as a public scandal, if it happens between [same-sex couples].” Dozens of protestors boldly kissed in public.
